12 Days of Gratitude | Day 1 Pregnancy Announcement
Before I was the age of 20 I was told that I could not have children by a doctor.
Not knowing exactly what this information meant and how that should make me feel as a woman, as a growing young woman at that, it was a little nugget that I put in the back of my mind and carried with me throughout my late teenage and young adult life. At the age of 20 I became pregnant with my first child. By twenty one I had a bouncing baby boy that changed my life and the trajectory of what I once thought it would look like –forever.
Fast forward to today, November 17, 2019 and I am celebrating my 37th year of life and we are pregnant with our fifth child.
I am so filled with gratefulness for the body God has allowed me to have, the vessel that He has allowed me to be the owner of. I’m so overwhelmed with gratefulness that I am no longer a single mother but now have a loving husband that has helped me grow this family. A strong man that adores each of our children and has such an outpouring of love and emotional availability. Thank you for selecting me to be the mother of your children.
I am thankful to God because I understand that a lot of women struggle with fertility, a lot women struggle with motherhood and a lot of women choose a different path for a plethora of reasons.
But He allowed me to have the title of mother and wife and for that I am so overwhelmingly grateful. I’m so grateful for each and every one of my children because they have single-highhandedly taught me something new about myself, they have forced me to stretch beyond my own imagination, they have allowed me to conform to new ideas, beliefs and ideologies. They have allowed me to practice different points of view and the picture is always changing. They have allowed me to grow in so many different ways. I am grateful for their trust and overwhelming and unapologetic love for me. Their love has allowed me to understand how God has come to love us, love me specifically.
My children have helped me define grace in ways that I never imagined. They have helped me to reach levels of joy, enthusiasm and optimism that I didn’t even know existed. They have allowed me to forgive myself and allowed healing to be a part of my story; not just pain. They have all been cut from my womb yet have left beautiful scars on what motherhood is and looks like for me. Now with our final child due to arrive shortly I am left field with gratefulness for the children I already have and Tiny (who I have fondly named this unborn child) who has yet to arrive.
I am so grateful!
